SEO PrestaShop: 5 Mistakes That Kill Your Rankings
PrestaShop is temperamental when it comes to SEO.
5 mistakes I find in 90% of audits:
1. Product URLs with IDs that cannot be cleanly modified
2. Generic meta descriptions on category pages
3. Missing or incomplete Product schema
4. Filter/sort pages indexed as duplicate content
5. XML sitemap not updated automatically
The right configuration:
1. Enable simplified URLs in the settings
2. Install a dynamic meta module
3. Add a schema module (or hard-code it)
4. Configure robots.txt to block sort parameters
5. Install an automatic sitemap module
A PrestaShop client: 3,000 products. 800 filter pages indexed. We cleaned it up. Useful indexed pages: +40%. Traffic: +28% in 2 months.
PrestaShop isn't SEO-friendly by default. It becomes so with the right configuration.
